work. sleep. call a friend to help me out of the ditch.

Yeah for "real life!!" I've officially moved into my new apartment as of a week and a half ago. I love the place. I'm living with Josh Van Engen (Dordt senior - theology major). We get along really well and even spent some time this week doing "interior decorating." We now have pictures hung on the wall and got rid of the giant bowflex that was occupying a lot of room but getting little use. (Josh is selling it - if anyone wants it, he's asking $500 for it!). But I finally got my room situated and it really feels like a home here. It's a really good feeling. And my first week of full-time work at Niessink is going fantastically! Sometimes the boys can try my patience, but I still love being there. I know that's where God's called me right now, and that's encouraging.

One thing that I really need to work on is still spending time with God. I've been doing a lot of reading, but the Bible often goes on the back burner. So i'm trying to do better with that. i figured i'd have a lot of free time without school, but there's still not all that much time. But i could definitely do better at taking time with God.

Fun story: I went in the ditch last night. I was driving home from work last night and the fog was really bad. I could see about 10 feet in front of me, so I was going about 25 on the gravel road that leads from work to home and the road was very much snow covered. I thought I was in the middle of the road and realized that I was mistaken when I went off the left side of the road right down into the ditch. I realized I was going in and tried to keep driving, thinking that I could drive out of it if I kept the momentum going. I was wrong. So it's 11:00 at night and I'm sitting in the ditch in my parent's van thinking, "Hmm. I'm in the ditch. This isn't good." I tried getting out, but it didn't work. I called some people from work who I knew had trucks, but no one had chains to help me out of the ditch. So I called Josh and he picked me up and brought me home. So I slept on it and then this morning I called a guy named Randy from my church that I thought might have the capabilities to get me out. He and his dad came and picked me up that afternoon to try and get my parent's van out of the ditch. First off, we picked up a bunch of lead weights to weigh down his truck so he could pull me better. They were about 1.5 feet by .5 feet and each weighed about 50 pounds. They looked deceivingly light. Anyway, we got them all in the truck and then got to where my truck was and Randy and Gene just started laughing at me. They saw the tracks where I went into the ditch and I explained how foggy it was. There was no stopping the laughter, though. Through the chuckling, they drove into the field beside my van and helped me to get out of there. I'm so thankful for those guys who didn't even ask anything for helping me out and were willing to give of their time and energy to help me out. It was amazing. Then Randy took me to his shed where he works on cars and hooked a hose to get a lot of the snow and ice that collected underneath the van. God is really good - he made sure I didn't go in the creek that was right before I went in the ditch AND he sent people that were able and willing to help me. Awesome!! I love having a church family that loves each other here in Sioux Center!! I've seen God so much in the church here. This is just one example.

Well, that's about it here. Hope everyone's doing well. I'll try to update more often. K, bye.

Vacation's almost done...

It's almost gone. Probably my last 2 week vacation for a long time. But that's alright. I'm really excited to get back to Sioux Center and go on choir tour, and then MOVE IN!!

i'm taking my parents' van back to Sioux Center tomorrow because tonight my car decided to vomit antifreeze all over the place. Yeah. I got in my car and noticed condensation on the inside of the windshield, but I figured I'd check on it later. Went to my grandma's and got beat at cards, then went out to supper with my family and when I got home, and the low coolant light came on. So I got home, and saw the smoking engine just before my attention was called to beneath my car, where antifreeze was draining very quickly. I opened the hood to see the antifreeze spraying from where one of the hoses was connected to another part of the engine (real specific, i know). To make a long story short, I'm not taking my car to SC tomorrow. Fun night.

But I got all my stuff packed in the van and I'm going to IMPACT (youth retreat) in Des Moines with the CCC youth group this weekend, too. It should be a really good time.

Then it's choir tour and starting in the real world. Scary, but exciting!
