Changes
Well, it's Wednesday, and I've just finished a 48-hour work week. Crazy. I pulled a double shift yesterday because one of my boys moved out, so I spent most of the morning going to transfer meetings and then helping him move over to his new apartment. It makes me sad to see him go, and to know that he's not very motivated to work...because if he doesn't work, he can't stay in his apartment. and then what'll happen? i don't know. it's out of my hands now. but life is definitely different without him there. (sorry about all the anonymity...i can't use names because of confidentiality and all that jazz). but my other boy is moving out next week, and then life will be REALLY different. he's one that is always happy and so not having him there is going to change the atmosphere of Niessink. So two of my boys move out. Already we have one new boy in - and i'm looking forward to becoming his primary and working with him. it'll be full of challenges, especially because i'm going to have to figure out what his goals and objectives need to be after his 30-day staffing and work with his mom to figure out what's best for him. i'm excited for the change, in that way.
and i guess the other new thing here (still relating to work) is that my supervisor has asked me to give them a two-year commitment so that I can become the new SCM (Safe Crisis Management) instructor. that's basically a fancy way of saying that i'm going to teach new staff how to restrain the kids safely. i'm not sure when i leave for training, but it'll probably be soon since we're getting a lot of new staff. exciting stuff!

taste and see
This was a GREAT Saturday! Have a taste:
10:30 AM - Awoken by phone call from Derek Bos (in colorado)
10:50 AM - Talked with Andrea about playing tennis
11:15 AM - Met Andrea at the tennis courts
12:15(ish) PM - Walked away triumphantly with a 6-4 victory
12:30 PM - Began mowing lawn
1:20 PM - Met some of my neighbors (This is my first time having real neighbors! Woo!)
1:45 PM - Burned garbage (yay, living in the country!)
2:15 PM - Showered and grabbed lunch
2:40 PM - Began cleaning apartment
3:30 PM - Took a nap
5:15 PM - Began preparing my last Sunday school lesson for the year
5:45 PM - Made supper
6:00 PM - Began watching Lord of the Rings (Extended Version) 'The Two Towers'
8:45 PM - Paused movie and went upstairs to play Rummy (complete with brownie and coffee) with Mina (my grandma-like landlady - she's cool)
11:00 PM - Finished playing cards, sat outside and played guitar while watching lightning storm
12:20 AM - Came inside and checked email/facebook - discovered the awesome fact that Lauren De Boer is PREGNANT!! (holy crap!!)
12:45 AM - Began writing this
1:00 AM - Finish writing this
1:15 AM - Go to sleep with teeth brushed and pjs on
1:30 AM - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

Dordt College presents: Class of 2007
I feel more like a Dordt person this week than I have since I graduated. Maybe because graduation is tomorrow. I've gotten to see/talk with Mike Elders, who's down here for Dordt grad this week. And Morgan's back from Nicaragua, so I got my first experience dredding hair last night. It was pretty fun. :) I'm just glad I didn't have to be there for the entire 9 hours (or whatever it ended up being). Mike, Morgan, Jeremy Westra, Andy Schroedermeier, and Matt Kunnari all went over to Henderson's (Dordt Philosophy prof) for a cookout and bonfire. There was good food and drink, as well as soccer with a massive red ball! So we stayed there for about 4 hours, eating, drinking, dredding, and talking. It was good. Then I got a chance to hang out with Tyler and his two fuzzy schnauzers (Tank and Zoey) for a couple hours. It was a really good weekend. Hopefully grad goes well for everyone tomorrow!! Congrats!!
